The Monte Vista High School counselors strive to assist students in achieving success in all aspects of their lives. Counselors get to know their students in grade nine and remain involved with them throughout high school, providing individual, ongoing guidance on academic, personal, extracurricular, and post-secondary options. College advising is expanded during the second half of the junior year and continues into the senior year as counselors assist students and parents in researching schools, developing a list, and making applications to appropriate colleges and universities. Each counselor serves an equal portion of the high school with the division based upon the first letter of a student's last name. Please note: the alphabet breakdown for 2009-10 has been updated again as of 10/13/09!! Due to the state budget crisis, student-to-counselor ratios have increased to 500:1 (or 100 students per day for part time counselors). Parent Meetings: Tuesday and Thursday by appoinment only. Please call or e-mail the counseling secretary, Diane Edwards, at dedwards1@mvhigh.net or (925) 552-2815 to schedule an appointment. Student Meetings: Sign up in the counseling office Monday-Friday. Counselors are assigned alphabetically and students will be called in the following day. Drop-in appointments are available at brunch, lunch, and after school. *Please note: Homework may only be requested for students who are absent for more than two days.
